We’re the people behind WordPress.com, Jetpack, WooCommerce, Tumblr, and more.
We’re passionate about democratizing publishing so anyone with a story can tell it, regardless of income, gender, politics, language, or where they live in the world. As our CEO Matt Mullenweg says, “We’re building the operating system for a more open, integrated, and user-centric web. With more than 1,000 people distributed across 75 countries, we’re constantly iterating.”

Democratizing publishing and commerce.
We believe open source is one of the most powerful ideas of our generation.
Automattic’s roots are open source. Several of our engineering teams actively contribute to open source and view it as part of our four freedoms. As our CEO Matt Mullenweg puts it, “Good ideas aren’t the sole province of groups of people behind high walls, and software shouldn’t be either.”
Of course, WordPress.org is the base of the software used to power WordPress.com. And WordPress.com is synced nearly daily with the WordPress trunk. An Automattic team works full-time on the open source publishing platform WordPress, and we make discussions about our work public.
We contribute to a number of non-profit and Open Source projects including the WordPress apps for iOS and Android, P2 Theme, Newspack,, WP Job Manager, and global WordCamps. Most of our work is available via the General Public License (GPL).
In a distributed workforce, building and maintaining a positive culture is critical. Our Engineers play a key role for the engines of Automattic: a variety of codebases and processes devoted to making the web a better place.
Being a fully remote company, Automattic empowers their employees to work independently and across teams, timezones, and cultures.
