Hi, I’m Becki!
I’m a UX Designer at Voxpopme, an AI-powered market research platform working with brands like Mars, Nike and Mondelez. My route into tech wasn’t a straight line at all. I spent 18 years at Citizens Advice, starting as their youngest ever advisor and covering pretty much every aspect of advice work along the way, from debt and housing to benefits and employment. I sat with people on some of the worst days of their lives and helped them find a way through, which I genuinely loved. The thing I kept hitting was that the systems around them were broken in ways no single advisor could fix, and that’s what eventually pulled me towards tech.
I retrained as a front end developer through School of Code and joined a patient storytelling startup called Iternal, which is where I first learned how to actually use AI tools properly in a working environment. When I moved into NHS UX work I noticed nobody around me was using any of it, so I started running training sessions at work to bring people up to speed. From there I reached out on LinkedIn to share what I was doing, which led to being asked to speak at conferences, which led to charities asking if I could run sessions for them, which eventually led to winning awards for the thousands of people I’ve now trained for free.
These days I’m at Voxpopme designing AI products used by some of the biggest brands in the world, and most recently I presented MATCH, an AI tool I designed to help match homeless people to accommodation, to MPs in Parliament after my team won a local government hackathon. Life is very exciting right now!
