Before entering the world of tech, I spent the first part of my career as a secondary school science teacher.
From an early age I loved teaching, so during the Pandemic I decided to join the TeachFirst programme and become a Secondary Science Teacher. I felt I had found my calling earning my PGDE, an award for outstanding efforts and excelling in the classroom based on my student and mentor feedback. I had the opportunity to be inspired by the next generation and see how their curiosity brought out the best in them. While I loved the impact I had in the classroom, I found myself increasingly drawn to the rapid evolution of technology and AI. In 2023, being inspired by my students I made the bold decision to retrain and join IBM as a platform engineer, despite having only ever learned R for a statistics course and thinking python was just a type of snake.
Since then, I’ve built a fast moving career as an AI engineer, progressing from career switching graduate to trusted technical lead in under two years. I now design and deliver AI solutions for some of the UK’s largest financial institutions, specialising in agentic workflows and knowledge graph RAG. Alongside client delivery, I am brought in as an SME to teach others across EMEA and have had the privilege of being awarded my Developer Certification in May. I am so inspired by those around me to continue my journey into tech and gets hands-on with as much technology as possible. This journey in to tech has provided me with opportunities I could never have dreamed of when I first sent in my CV in 2022.
