In 2019, I decided to change careers, leaving behind my creative world in film, fashion retail, and wedding videography to enrol in a self-funded IT bootcamp.
This leap landed me my first role as an IT Helpdesk Analyst. I later joined Capgemini’s training academy to upskill into software engineering, initially specialising in Java before transitioning into my current role working with Scala and modern data platforms.
My path hasn’t been a straight line. Navigating a completely new technical field and returning to work after maternity leave brought a natural sense of self-doubt and a feeling of not quite belonging. However, my journey has been defined by a positive attitude, adaptability, and simply refusing to give up. By constantly learning from both experienced colleagues and peers who are growing alongside me, I have proven that a non-traditional background can lead to engineering success. I hope my story inspires other women to take that same leap.
