Girls Into Coding (GIC) is a social enterprise founded in 2018 by Avye when she was 10.
Now at the age of 16, she continues to lead the organisation alongside her mum. Together they are a rare mother-and-daughter team, working collaboratively to drive the GIC mission.
GIC engages girls aged 10 to 14, particularly from underrepresented groups, with FREE hands-on workshops & bootcamps in coding, robotics, engineering, physical computing, computer-aided design & manufacture – allowing them to see their abilities & potential while developing confidence & a sense of belonging in the STEM space.
Through their mission and community, they champion gender diversity and challenge stereotypes in STEM, seeking to address the female underrepresentation in the sector. Their efforts align with A Learning Path To Becoming a Data Scientist, aimed at creating a situation “where girls and women are engaged in STEM activities, education, and careers, equally comfortable, with an equal sense of belonging and in equal numbers.
