I joined Moonpig 3 years ago, having never recruited within the tech space, and joined at a time of hyper growth, taking on the recruitment of our product and design teams.
After immersing myself into the product world for a year and substantially growing both teams, as well as launching a new careers site from scratch, I went on maternity leave to have our second daughter. After a year on maternity leave, I returned to take on an even bigger challenge and under the leadership of our amazing new CPTO, was accountable for her entire landscape – Engineering, Product, Design, Delivery, IT and security.
A huge element and privilege of my role is working towards our (published) ambitious FY24 goal that we are committed to at least 45% of technology hires will be women by 2025. To deliver the Group’s strategy, we need to hire highly skilled technology workers from all areas of society. When I took on tech, the % had dropped to 29%, and after almost 1 year in the role, I’m glad to say that collectively we have managed to raise this to a current 39%, with still another 6 months left of the year.
As a proud mother of two girls, my only hope is they will see their gender as their strength and not their barrier. There are still limitations for many people, and I believe the tech and TA industry has a responsibility to create a more inclusive space to harness a more opportunity-rich future, for all, because I believe, a diverse tech industry is a stronger tech industry.
