Insider Interview Tips

I’m Charlie, Talent Manager for FARFETCH, and I have been working in the London office since 2015. I have recruited across many of our teams, helping to hire people into our Data, Product Design, Marketing & Commercial functions. I currently manage a team of 6, partnering with our Data & Commercial stakeholders to make sure we are thinking strategically about how we grow our teams and hire the right people for our business.

I currently live in South East London with my boyfriend and our 4-month-old pomchi puppy, Bear. I am looking forward to when our office reopens, however, I will be taking full advantage of our flexible working policy so that I can still do his morning and afternoon walks in the park, which are some of my favourite times of the day.

What do you think makes a great CV? Top tips:

Insider Interview Tips

Help me easily identify what you have achieved in your career to date:

  1. Present it in a clear and simple format
  2. Provide detailed explanations of your experience and skills

Following these tips allows hiring managers to quickly assess if you are suitable for the role or potentially other positions or teams at FARFETCH.

When detailing your experience in your CV, it is important to include:

  1. The key elements of your role
  2. A breakdown of your day-to-day tasks.
  3. Any extra pieces of work or projects that you had the opportunity to deliver.

I always look out for key achievements as these are indicators of what someone is proud of and what could motivate an individual in a new position.

Are you wanting to make a career change and move into another industry or sector?

Then it is important that you highlight any key transferable skills in your CV. Often when reviewing applications, a recruiter is normally going to look for a like-for-like experience.

It is also good to highlight in an opening statement why you are applying for this role and what is motivating you to make this change. In general, it always helps to make this section personalised to the position you are applying for as it shows a level of interest in the team and role.

Can you explain the hiring process at FARFETCH?

In 2020, we launched a framework called GO FAR to encompass several of our People Team processes, including our hiring strategy. GO FAR is based on a simple principle – in order to thrive at FARFETCH, you must consistently demonstrate effectiveness across three dimensions:

  1. Are you Good for FARFETCH?
Do your behaviours and ways of working align with the FARFETCH values?
  2. Are you Good for the Role?
Can you successfully demonstrate the skills and competencies required for the role you are interviewing for?
  3. Are you Good for Growth?
Can you successfully evolve from the realities of today to the requirements of the future?

Looking specifically at Good for Growth, we want to find people that can stay and develop at FARFETCH in the long term. Given the pace of our growth, we expect that your role will evolve in the future. We find that the people who are happiest at FARFETCH often share the same attributes; a growth mindset, the ability to thrive in ambiguity, a hunger to learn, and a desire to solve complex problems.

The GO FAR framework is great because it applies throughout your FARFETCH journey. This is how we assess potential talent and existing employee development. The framework is used at the interview stage and once you’re onboard- it drives the areas of focus for your development and it’s how we reward and recognise our people.

How to impress FARFETCH at interview stage?

At FARFETCH, we believe that past behaviour is the most accurate indicator of future success. Throughout your interviews, we want to understand not only what you have achieved, but how you achieved it. And equally, when you have failed, what did you learn?

We recommend reflecting on your past experiences and preparing detailed examples in advance. When interviewing, it’s useful to leverage the STAR method to answer questions:

  • Situation – What situation were you faced with?
  • Task – What tasks were involved in that situation?
  • Action – What actions did you take?
  • Results – What were the results of those actions?
Insider Interview Tips

We really appreciate candidates who are prepared, so make sure to take some time to learn about our company, business areas, and recent achievements on our careers website. And we love people who ask questions!

FARFETCH is a place for all and we encourage you to bring your authentic self to the interview process.
