Job Description
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is a pivotal executive leadership role responsible for shaping Foundry’s technology strategy, leading the development and efficient delivery of our product portfolio.
Working closely with a talented team of product and technology leaders, the CTO will be instrumental in developing and implementing a compelling technology vision and strategy that directly supports and accelerates Foundry’s company goals. This includes a significant focus on leveraging cutting-edge technologies, including AI/ML, to enhance our existing portfolio and driving the development of next-generation products and workflows to accelerate Foundry’s growth.
- 10+ years of strategic technology management and portfolio software development experience, with prior experience in a CTO role or senior technology leadership role
- Demonstrated depth of experience in the media and entertainment industry and strong VFX and Animation production tools and/or pipeline knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of current technology trends to build strategic vision, with a strong understanding of computer graphics, high-performance computing, and cloud technologies
- Proven ability to deliver and excel in customer-focused software development and delivery
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate distributed staff to succeed in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment
- Experience in company and/or IP evaluation, acquisition, and integration
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills for internal and external audiences, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics
Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership:
- Owns the overall technology strategy for the company as a member of the Executive team
- Provides forward-looking insight and functions as a strategic business partner, enabler, and problem solver in complex technology and commercial issues
- In close partnership with the Chief Product Officer (CPO), leads the development of new products and workflows that align with and deliver on Foundry’s company strategy and objectives, yielding competitive advantages through new product and IP developments
- Partners with the Executive team to drive the performance, strategic planning, and growth orientation of the business, holding accountability for the financial performance of the technology portfolio to achieve business goals
- Leads the ongoing assessment of future technology trends, opportunities, and threats, proactively informing and shaping company strategy. This includes identifying and evaluating emerging technologies, particularly in AI, for their potential impact on Foundry’s product development and operational efficiency
- Oversees the assessment of technologies that might be applied to solve market problems and analyzes buy, build, or partner opportunities in conjunction with the CPO
- Responsible for the overall technology budget and demonstrating clear ROI on technology investments
- Leads the technology evaluation, strategy, investigation, and integration of any potential M&A targets
Technology & Product Delivery Excellence:
- Responsible for overseeing the Research, Architecture, Product Engineering, and Engineering Operations teams
- With the support of the Director of Research, responsible for identifying areas for research focus and investment, particularly in advancing AI/ML capabilities for integration in the existing portfolio and leveraging the latest algorithmic research to advance next gen development
- Ensures rigorous product development and delivery across multiple, complex applications, establishing world-class standards and ensuring appropriate leadership is in place to deliver consistent, high-quality releases
- Oversees the team responsible for high-level technical architecture and decision making, coding standards, and the review process for the portfolio
- Beyond the product portfolio roadmap, owns strategic initiatives, working closely with the CPO to manage the seamless transition from early-stage Research projects through to the final delivery of high-quality IP and significant customer value in next-gen products
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement:
- With the support of the Director of Engineering Operations, drives continuous improvement across the entire Engineering organization, focusing on enhancing efficiency, increasing pace of development to reduce the time to market, and enabling teams to operate more effectively
- Leads the adoption and integration of new tools and processes to optimize engineering operations, improve developer experience, and enable all team members to focus on the most valuable tasks
- Exhibits exceptional learning agility and openness to change, quickly adopting and mobilizing teams around new paradigms, technologies and transformative ways of working
- Member of the Foundry Cyber Steering Committee and responsible for the overall security of Foundry IP in partnership with the CFO and Director of Corporate Technology

- Identifies and develops top talent and high-performing senior leaders within the technology organization, ensuring they have the guidance and support to build teams that deliver long-term value to customers
