What is a Data Scientist?

Data Scientists are analytical specialists, responsible for collecting, analysing and interpreting data. This data is then turned into meaningful information that companies can use to improve their businesses.

Data is extracted from a range of sources, using algorithmic, data mining, artificial intelligence, machine learning and other statistical tools.

Data scientists are in popular demand, with companies facing ever more big data, hoping to extract useful information from it and make decisions.

Qualifications

You typically need a degree for a career in Data Sciencecomputer science, mathematics or statistics would be particularly helpful when getting started.

A good knowledge of programming languages are also a good idea for a career in Data Science. Python is the most widely used data science programming language in the world, but JavaScript, R, SQL and SAS are also used in the field.
