Championing Diversity and Innovation in Tech
I am a Software Engineer at Moonpig, with a rich background in technologies such as .Net, Angular, Blazor, and JavaScript. My journey into the tech world began after years of exploring different industries, including estate agency, private medical, and customer service, where I felt unfulfilled.
My interest in software development and natural aptitude for Information Technology at school led me to pursue a STEM degree in computer science through The Open University, which I completed with First Class Honours in 2022.
In my current role, I am passionate about fostering diversity in tech and inspiring the next generation of women in the industry. I have actively participated in initiatives such as mentoring work experience students at Moonpig and participating in panel discussions aimed at encouraging young girls to pursue Tech and STEM subjects.
I also mentor a fellow female software engineer, helping her to enhance her communication and soft skills.
One of my proudest achievements is the creation of a Learning Styles Workshop, which highlights the importance of adapting teaching and communication to meet diverse audience needs. This workshop has been well-received for its insights into tailoring content to different learning styles.
Despite facing challenges such as returning to work after a 13-month maternity leave, which included dealing with a lack of childcare and suffering from imposter syndrome, I have emerged more resilient. These experiences taught me the importance of giving myself grace and courageously embracing challenges, which has helped restore my confidence.Looking ahead, I aspire to progress to the role of Senior Software Engineer and eventually transition into an Engineering Manager position. My true passion lies in people management, supporting individuals in achieving their career aspirations, and fostering inclusive, innovative team cultures.
Balancing a full-time career and family life is demanding, however, I remain dedicated to making a positive impact within my capacity and look forward to further opportunities to contribute to the tech community.
