8 Tips for Conference Wellness

3 min read

Conferences are great for learning new skills! You’ve booked your ticket to the event, and you are looking forward to spending a few days out of the office learning, being inspired and meeting new people.

But what can you do to make sure you have the best possible experience and don’t burn out during the conference, leaving you feeling exhausted? Here are just some of the tips we’ve picked up over the years:

1. HYDRATE

Dehydration can cause headaches, lack of energy and aching muscles. None of these things are going to make your conference experience more fun. Also, I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Las Vegas is in the middle of the desert. So aim to drink two litres (3.5 pints) of water a day (coffee, soft drinks and booze do not count!)

2. EAT

Firstly — remember to do it! You’ll need the energy, and coffee alone won’t do you any good. Secondly — try and get a good mix of protein, vegetables and carbs into each meal.

3. REST

Conferences are a lot to deal with — taking in lots of new information and socialising. It’s super fun but it can also be exhausting. So give yourself enough time to unwind and get a good nights sleep.

4. STRETCH

Sitting in talks all day gives your muscles time to seize up and get stiff. So whenever you get the chance, move around a bit and maybe stretch you arms up to the sky to wake up your muscles and joints.

I love teaching accessible yoga at conferences — no mat or special kit needed. Just come along and learn some moves you can do anywhere. You’ll also pick up some techniques for calming the nerves and clearing the mind. Learn more about my #DevYoga

5. ORGANISE

Just a little… figure out what sessions you want to see, and maybe which mornings you really don’t want a hangover! And try and schedule in a little free time to chill, and maybe sit in the sun for 20 minutes.

6. EXERCISE

Luckily, most Vegas hotels have a gym and pool, and if you can get to a yoga class by the pool, all the better!

7. UTILIZE OTHER RESOURCES

There are more health and wellness apps and tech out there than ever before. Use them! Want to exercise in your hotel room? Try Fitstar. To eat healthier? Try lifesum, want to move around more? Try a pedometer app to track your steps.

8. DO A LITTLE HOMEWORK

Find healthy places before you head out to a conference. Doing your research will pay off!
