Computer Weekly’s 13th annual UKtech50 list features ‘movers and shakers’ in UK technology, such as CIOs, industry executives, public servants and business leaders.

For the first time, the top spot has been awarded jointly to Michelle Donelan and Chloe Smith, secretary of state for science, innovation and technology at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.

Michelle was appointed secretary of state for science, innovation and technology in February 2023, prior to which she was secretary of state in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Donelan is currently on maternity leave, with Chloe Smith acting as the current secretary of state.

Coming in at second is Lindy Cameron, CEO of the National Cyber Security Centre. She was also last year’s winner of UKtech50. Behind Lindy, is Megan Lee Devlin, CEO of the government’s new Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO).

Debbie Forster, CEO, Tech Talent Charter; Sheila Flavell, COO of FDM Group; Dame Wendy Hall, Professor of Computer Science at University of Southampton; Tabitha Goldstaub, Co-Founder, CognitionX and Chair of the government’s AI Council; and Poppy Gustafsson, CEO of Darktrace; Demis Hassabis, Founder & CEO at Google DeepMind; and Russ Shaw, founder of Tech London Advocates and Global Tech Advocates; and Julian David, CEO of TechUK, also made the list.
