The PowerWomen Chat is an event series about up close and personal conversations with leading women in entrepreneurship, business and investment.

We aim to empower women in business, but we would love to have more men attending too! :)

Topic of the Month:
Successful Fundraising via Equity Crowdfunding

The Speakers:

Karen Kerrigan, Chief Legal Officer at Seedrs

Karen is Chief Legal Officer of Seedrs, Europe's first regulated and leading equity-only crowdfunding platform.

Before joining Seedrs, Karen worked at Simmons & Simmons in the Financial Markets Litigation and Contentious Regulatory Team. At Seedrs she heads up the legal, financial, compliance and administrative functions. She is also a Director of the UK Crowdfunding Association, where she leads the regulatory workstream and regularly engages in lobbying work with the FCA, HMT and the European Commission.

Karen has been named one of the top women in fintech by Innovate Finance, UK in-house individual of the year in the Finance sector by Legal 500, and one of Brummell Magazines Inspirational Women City Innovators. She is also on the Executive Committee of the Disruptive GC Network.

Lucy Patterson, MILK Beauty

Lucy Patterson is the founder and Managing Director of MILK Beauty, the UK’s leading Corporate Beauty Services provider.

Lucy founded MILK after experiencing how the UK’s £6bn beauty services industry, dominated by high street salons, struggles to meet the needs of urban, professional women.

MILK delivers beauty services via online booking, at a time and place that suits our clients, delivered by the UK’s top 10% of therapists, using only the highest quality products.

MILK’s journey began in 2012 with a box of nail varnishes in Lucy’s spare room and one part time therapist. MILK quickly won a loyal client base of celebrities and beauty insiders. Lucy secured Angel investment in April 2015 which allowed her to start working full time on the business, growing it at pace. MILK closed a successful crowdfunding in January 2016, raising £315,000 in just 34 days.

The Host:

The evening will be moderated by Lu Li, Founder and CEO of Blooming Founders.
