Hosted by Google’s Digital Academy, Success Looks Like You (SLLY) are launching the G.I.R.L in Tech Mentoring & Bursary Scheme, on the 26th of July. Including filled goodie bags, this event will provide you with the opportunity to hear from successful women who are achieving career and business success in the technology world.
Speakers on the day include, Urenna Okonkwo, the founder of the Cashmere app, which is a social savings site for guilt-free luxury shopping; Regina Oladipo, Technology Policy Advisor for the UK Cabinet Office and the founder of Mainstream, a community for millenial women to be supported in the workplace; and Google Tech Apprenticeships Manager, Maya Tudor, alongside many more.
After hearing from and meeting our incredible speakers, you’ll have a chance to apply to be mentored by one of them.
The technology mentoring + bursary scheme is aimed at young black women between the ages of 16-23 with an interest in Business (Marketing and Sales), Tech (IT and Software Development), Engineering, Maths or Science.
The mentoring scheme looks to encourage you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the industry whilst learning to focus and hone in on your specific goals. It will offer a chance to develop skills, valuable for the working world, and for self-development through a small project that you will undergo during the duration of the mentoring.
After successfully completing the mentoring programme, mentee’s will be invited to apply for a bursary donated by friends of SLLY.
